The zinc plate and its functionality
An important part of using a stainless steel ladder in conjunction with salt water is the zinc plate. In order to have a long-term rustproof stainless steel ladder, it is important to use a zinc plate.
How is this attached?
It is best to attach the zinc plate to a step on the ladder. In any case, the zinc plate must touch the ladder. A chemical reaction between stainless steel and zinc prevents the salt water from attacking the stainless steel.
How long can I use the same zinc plate?
Because the stainless steel is not attacked, the salt water affects the zinc plate. The water acts as an electrolyte. Experience has shown that the zinc plate lasts for 1-2 years and should then be replaced again.
